Report No. 3: A Second Korean Perm on My Own Hair, Seoul, 18 August 2026
Report No. 3. Five months after my first Korean perm I had a second one in Seoul, this time with keratin restoration first. The day by the clock.

In short. On Tuesday 18 August 2026, the second day of my August training (Report No. 4), I had a second Korean perm on my own hair in the same academy salon in Gangnam, five months after the first one (Report No. 2). This time it was three procedures in one visit: PPT keratin restoration, a digital perm and root volume, for 330,000 ₩, about $249. By the timestamps it ran from 11:48 to 16:12, about four and a half hours. The result was soft shoulder-length waves, and this perm holds much better than my first one.
How it was
Time | What happened |
|---|---|
11:48 | Black cape, wet hair: PPT keratin restoration, finished with a flat iron |
12:16 | Solution applied by brush, about 27 minutes |
13:19 | Winding on rods |
14:09 | Under the machine, rods wired (my selfie) |
14:41-15:26 | Work on the curl with a corded tool |
15:45-16:09 | Drying |
16:11 | The result filmed against a white curtain |
This time I watched differently. In March I was a client who wanted the perm. In August I already had four months of my own studio behind me, and I followed each step as a stylist: how long the solution stayed, how the hair was dried before winding, how the curl was shaped at the end. At one point the assistant and Hong Jihoon were blow-drying my hair together.
What I got
Soft shoulder-length waves with movement, filmed at 16:11 the same day, plus lift at the roots.
Two months later the perm holds much better than the first one did. I think the PPT restoration made the difference, and probably the Korean products I have used on my hair since. Before, my hair was porous, fine and airy. Now it is denser and shinier. My conclusion for myself and for my clients: professional care before and after a perm is not optional.

Who it suits and who it doesn't
A repeat perm suits hair that has grown out softly and is in good condition. A test strand and a look at the ends come first; if the hair is porous after colour, restoration goes before the perm. It does not suit hair that is shedding: on thinning hair the curl does not take well.
Verdict
9/10. Holds better than the first, hair denser and shinier; one point off for 4.5 hours in the chair.
Questions
Can you perm the same hair twice in five months?
I did, on healthy hair with a soft grow-out, at the same academy. The decision depends on the state of the ends and a test strand, not on the calendar.
Why did the second perm take longer than the first?
Because it was three procedures, not one: PPT keratin restoration first, then the digital perm and root volume.
How much did it cost?
330,000 ₩, about $249, for PPT restoration, the digital perm and root volume together, in August 2026. My first perm in March, digital only, was 250,000 ₩.
What is PPT before a perm?
A restoring treatment applied before the perm to fill porous, damaged areas of the hair so the solution works more evenly. In my case it was a keratin restoration.
From the editor. In Moscow I do Korean perms on Korean solutions at the Versiya Lab studio near Mendeleevskaya, with a test strand at the start of the procedure day. Book a Korean perm in Moscow
