How to Book a Hair Salon in Seoul as a Foreigner
How to book a hair salon in Seoul as a foreigner in 2026: Naver Booking with a passport, KakaoTalk and Instagram, what to confirm in writing and how to handle language in the chair.

In short. Since 4 June 2026 Naver lets foreigners verify an account with a passport instead of a Korean phone number, which opens Naver Booking for salons that accept foreign bookings (Koreabridge, verified 22 August 2026). Many salons and individual stylists also take bookings through KakaoTalk or Instagram. Whatever the channel, get the date, time, address and price confirmed in writing before you fly.
Three ways to book
Channel | What you need | Good for |
|---|---|---|
Naver Booking | A Naver account verified with a passport issued outside Korea | Salons that list open slots and accept foreign bookings |
KakaoTalk | The KakaoTalk app and the salon's Kakao channel | Direct contact with the salon; AVENUE JUNO, for example, lists KakaoTalk as a booking method |
Instagram DM | An Instagram account | A specific stylist, consultations, sending reference photos |

Naver Booking with a passport
Passport verification on Naver requires an original passport issued outside Korea, not expired and not already used for another Naver ID. The name and date of birth must match the account, and a face check follows the passport photo step. Even with a verified account, the salon itself has to offer Naver Booking, have a free slot and accept foreign bookings (Koreabridge).
KakaoTalk and Instagram
For a particular stylist, a direct message usually works better than a booking app: you can send reference photos and ask questions before you commit. Put two or three photos of your hair as it is now in the first message, together with the look you want.
What to confirm in writing
Our editor booked salon and academy appointments in Seoul by message in 2026. The one rule that came out of it: an arrangement without four specifics is not a booking yet.
- Date and time. A day that suits you is not a slot. Ask for the exact time.
- Address. The salon's address in Korean as well as in English, so a taxi driver or a map app can find it.
- Price. The price for your length and the service, or at least a range, and whether a deposit is needed and how it counts towards the final bill (Koreabridge advises asking both).
- Cancellation terms. They vary by salon and by booking platform, and a third-party platform can have different terms from the salon's own.
Leave room in your schedule
In August 2026 our editor's flight to Seoul was delayed, and an appointment at a Seoul salon booked for the day after arrival had to be moved. A short message from the departure area asking to move the procedure, without naming a new date yet, was enough: the salon moved it to 18 August.
Two practical conclusions:
- Do not book a salon for the day you land or the morning after.
- If something changes, write to the salon at once and ask them to hold a later slot.

Getting there is easier with help from your hotel: the Kakao T taxi app asks to verify a Korean phone number, and with a foreign number registration does not go through. Hotel reception can call a taxi in a couple of minutes.
Language in the chair
During our editor's training in Seoul in August 2026 an interpreter worked alongside the class. Without one, a translation app on the phone covers short practical phrases, but hair vocabulary is where it slips.

Learn the names of the services you want in Korean, and show them on screen rather than relying on translation:
Korean | Pronounced | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
디지털펌 | di-ji-teol peom | digital perm |
셋팅펌 | set-ting peom | setting perm |
콜드펌 | kol-deu peom | cold perm |
뿌리펌 | ppu-ri peom | root perm |
커트 | keo-teu | haircut |
What the perms on that list cost and how long they take is in our guide to the Korean perm in Seoul.
