K-ETA for Russian Citizens: Fee, Processing Time and Validity
Without the K-ETA electronic travel authorisation a Russian citizen is not allowed to board a flight to Korea. The fee, the processing time, how long it is valid and how to pay from Russia.

In short. A Russian citizen needs the K-ETA electronic authorisation to enter Korea; without it you are not let on board. The fee is 10,000 won, processing takes up to 72 hours, and it is valid for three years. Payment is accepted only by a card from a foreign bank. I found this out two days before departure; below is how that went and what the conditions are as of the date I checked.
How I found out about K-ETA two days before departure
I prepared my March 2026 training trip using a travel site that said Russians did not need a visa. The page turned out to be old. Two days before departure I double-checked and found an article on the rule change: entry is now by electronic authorisation.
I applied in a hurry. Approval came within a day, though they promise up to 72 hours. I could not pay myself: a virtual American card was declined. Friends in Korea paid the fee.
I was asked for the K-ETA three times: at passport control in Russia, in Tashkent and in Seoul.

What follows from this
One rule, and it matters more than any figure above: check entry rules on the country's official site, on today's date. Every article goes out of date, this one included. I wrote the figures down together with the date I checked them precisely so you can see how fresh they are.
Apply as soon as you have bought your tickets, not two days before departure, and decide in advance whose card will pay the fee. On the journey: flights to Seoul on your own terms, Shanghai layover and baggage and how to pay in Korea without Visa or Mastercard.
Questions
Can someone else pay the fee for me?
Yes. Friends in Korea paid for my authorisation from their own card, and the approval came to my application. What matters is that the card is issued by a foreign bank.
Will a Russian bank card definitely be declined?
Yes: as of 8 August 2026 only a foreign bank card is accepted. Even my virtual American card was declined, so check your card in advance, not on the day you apply.
Is K-ETA checked only in Korea?
No. I was asked for it at passport control in Russia and at the Tashkent connection. Without it the journey ends before Korea.
Do I need a new K-ETA for every trip?
No. It is valid for three years with multiple entry; within that period only the stay is limited: up to 60 days at a time and no more than 90 days in six months.
What if departure is less than 72 hours away?
Apply anyway: my approval came within a day. But that is one case, not a rule, and not something to count on.
From the editor. In January 2027 we go to Seoul: two days of Korean perm with Hong Jihoon at MASSTIGE HAIR Academy; participants arrange their own K-ETA, flights and accommodation. Programme on versionacademy.com.
