Korean Perm Price Index: Methodology
How the editors collect, check and calculate the Korean Perm Price Index. Applies to every release, starting with Korean Perm Price Index Q4 2026.
Sources
- Only prices a salon publishes itself: its website, menu, booking page (Fresha, Hot Pepper Beauty and similar) or a dated public listing. Every price keeps a link to its source.
- Salons are checked by the editors one by one. A salon enters the index only when its Korean perm and its price are confirmed; salons still being checked are shown in the directory but do not count.
- Ratings and reviews from maps and booking platforms are not used.
Dates of collection
Every price carries the date it was checked. In Korean Perm Price Index Q4 2026 the dates run from 2 July 2025 to 23 October 2026: 95 of 100 prices were checked in October 2026; where a salon dates its own menu earlier, that date is kept.
Cities
A city appears in a release once at least 5 checked salons there publish a digital or setting perm price. In Korean Perm Price Index Q4 2026: Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, London, Los Angeles, New York. Other cities in the directory join as they reach the threshold.
Currency and conversion to US dollars
- Prices are recorded in the salon's own currency, as published, before discounts. Tax, a cut included or a long-hair surcharge are noted on the salon page and in the CSV where the menu says so.
- Conversion to US dollars uses the official Bank of Russia rates for one date per release (22 October 2026 for Korean Perm Price Index Q4 2026), as a cross rate through the rouble, rounded to the dollar.
Calculation
- For each salon and service we take the middle of its price range (for example, 150-250 becomes 200).
- The city figure is the median across salons, so one very expensive or very cheap salon does not move it. The range shows the lowest and highest salon price.
- Digital and setting perms are counted together: both use heated rods and a machine, and many salons list them under one name. Cold and root perms are counted separately.
Releases
The index is released every quarter with a permanent address and a CSV file. Past releases are never changed or removed; corrections go into the next release. All releases: Data.
